Stories - to tell or not?

I'm not much into storytelling, despite its current popularity everywhere you turn.

Stress? It's often just stories playing in our heads. Our thoughts love spinning tales, drawing from memories of the past and hurtling toward a nonexistent future. That's where the tension brews! So, drop the stories.

Now, here's the twist: I do indulge in storytelling during my 'Be an EPIC' workshop. But not just any story – it's a story within a story, mirroring the way our minds work!

Here's the catch: all workshop participants become characters within these tales. Why? Because debriefing shouldn't just be understood; it should be lived!

Even the stress-relief tools I provide are experienced firsthand in real-life situations, not just within the confines of a training hall. Participants discover how their thoughts are often confined by conditioning, leading stories in a specific direction.

So, pausing the narrative—now and then—becomes the key to crafting a better story!

Do you want to weave better stories? Or perhaps, equip yourself with tools for on-the-go stress relief and rejuvenation? I'm here to guide individuals and corporates in integrating Self-Awareness micro-practices into their daily lives.

An interesting story about Palmistry even if you don’t believe in it!

There was a bustling town where a skilled palmist named Madeline plied her trade. She welcomed people from near and far, offering to reveal the secrets of their lives by examining the lines on their palms.

One day, a skeptical visitor named Alex arrived. He approached Madeline and confessed his doubts about palmistry. Madeline smiled and offered to read his palm, but she did so with a unique twist. Instead of making predictions, she proposed a challenge.

Madeline handed Alex a piece of paper and a pen and asked him to jot down a significant event from his past, something known only to him. Alex scribbled a particular incident that had left an indelible mark on his memory.

Madeline carefully examined his palm, tracing the lines with her practiced eye. She studied the contours and details, then, without hesitation, pointed to a specific line and shared an astonishingly accurate description of the event Alex had written down.

His skepticism wavered. How could she have known?

Madeline explained that palmistry, to her, wasn't about predicting the future but rather understanding the past and the present. The lines on our hands, she said, held the imprints of our unique life journeys. And sometimes, within those lines, lay the echoes of our personal histories, like chapters of an unwritten book.

Whether one believes in palmistry or not, 'Be an EPIC' offers an engaging activity that challenges participants to alter given lines, as shown in the image. This exercise encourages full immersion, prompting participants to gain valuable insights into the impacts of choices, consequences, and life experiences.

Story telling creates stress!

I don’t like to tell stories!

Storytelling, a popular trend these days, isn't everyone's cup of tea. But here's a thought-provoking twist: What if I told you that stress is nothing more than the tales we weave inside our minds?

The Nature of Thought: A Storytelling Machine

Our minds are natural storytellers, constantly crafting narratives. These stories spring from our past memories and leap into the realm of the non-existent future, creating tension within us. It's all in our heads!

Drop the Stories: The Key to Liberation

Now, the paradox emerges. In my 'Be an EPIC' workshop, I delve into storytelling, but not the typical kind. There will be a story within a story, just like those that unfold in our minds every day. What sets this apart is that every participant becomes a character in the story. So, it's not merely about listening or observing; it's about active participation, which leads to profound insights and lasting change.

πŸ”„ Another Twist: Breaking the Stressful Story Cycle πŸ”„

Now, consider this paradox. By learning to silence the stories in their heads, participants discover how to choose the right narrative and dismiss the stress-inducing ones. It's a unique way to rejuvenate and de-stress on the go.

How to run the happy App?

Sunday or Monday, run the hAPPy (Happy APP) every day!

On 22nd August 2023, the first batch of the Central region of Balmer Lawrie &

Co. Ltd., officers learned how to activate happy apps during a day-long EPIC

workshop at YMCA International, Mumbai Central.

(Please use earphones to listen to the video clipping)

#suswasaSpace #WellbeingJourney

PS:

I will be back in Mumbai on 4th Sept 2023, to facilitate the EPIC workshop for

the second batch of officers on 5th Sept.

I would love to meet up with #linkedIn #friends

on the 4th / 5th Sept evening. I am staying at Pali Hills Bandra. Please DM me

in case those time slots are convenient for you.

PPS:

Providing a brief about the workshop as some of you may not be familiar with

Hindi. (Participants sharing is in Hindi);

Everyone aspires to be happy in whatever s/he does. That’s fundamental human nature.

But in reality, the majority of people feel unhappy with their profession,

family, society, and even with themselves. All this is because of the stress

caused by the present way of lifestyle which in turn is dictated by the

networked society.

The demands of the profession, family, and society on the

person, especially on corporate executives are enormous. Coping and balancing

such wide-ranging issues cause stress. And stress is a major contributor

to physical as well as psychological ailments.

So, it is essential to learn to de-stress ourselves on a day-to-day basis to remain

healthy and productive.

Any person, who has learned to be happy with the self, will spread happiness all

around. Happy people are always welcome in any organization, as they contribute much more than ‘productivity to society.

Here are the key takeaways from the EPIC workshop ;

(Energetic, Productive, Intuitive and Celebrative)

1. Knowing our HAPPY APPs. – How to become aware of the HAPPY APPs and run them!

2. Experiencing the mechanics of the Mind – This is a unique and one of its kind

activity to experience the mechanics of the mind, the flow of thoughts. A

simple and unique activity provides the experience of thought patterns and how to organize them for a better understanding of self and relating to people and situations around.

3. Understanding the aspect of inherent dilemmas one faces in real-life

situations.

Discover the EPIC in You

There was a chorus 'We are EPIC & HAPPY'!

More on that in a while.

Have you ever wondered how to practice self-awareness in your day-to-day activities? It's something we often discuss on LinkedIn, but implementing it outside of our digital lives can be challenging.

Narayankumar recently shared in one of his recent post, "Everyone knows the theory. Stay logical, breathe deeply, be diplomatic. All of which is tough to do in the real world outside of LinkedIn posts."

So true, right?

However, the second batch of officers from Balmer Lawrie and Co. Ltd had the opportunity to experience firsthand how to integrate self-aware practices into their daily lives! During the one-day workshop on 'Discover the EPIC in You,' they discovered the power of being Energetic, Productive, Intuitive, and Celebrative.  They left the workshop feeling EPIC and HAPPY!

And hence the chorus!

Btw, a simple way to be happy is Having Awareness of Present Position & yet capable of saying Yahoo! (Shammi Kapoorwala)

πŸ’‘ The EPIC program not only provides motivation but also shares beautiful micro-practices that can be easily incorporated into your daily routine to de-stress and rejuvenate on the go!

πŸ‘₯ HR professionals can play a vital role in helping employees become EPIC! By fostering a culture that encourages self-awareness and personal growth, HRs can empower individuals to unlock their full potential and thrive in both their personal and professional lives.

Embrace the unexpected

 "Embracing the Unexpected"

Three drops of blue ink are used in my session on 'Discover the EPIC in You.'

This final activity at the end of the day session prompts participants to come up with many insights on their own. As I reflect on this simple yet powerful activity, a profound metaphor unfolds before me;

Imagine you are all set for an important presentation, wearing a brand new, super white shirt. You are ready to make a lasting impression when someone accidentally spills ink on your pristine shirt, creating an instant prominent blot.

In that moment, frustration surges through you, and you begin to blame the person responsible, the situation that led to the mishap, and even your own decision to wear the white shirt instead of your favorite purple one.

Now, let's delve into the metaphor.

The shirt, in all its whiteness, represents our Beingness—the core of who we are. The presentation symbolizes our actions, the outward expression of ourselves to the world.

And the ink blot? It represents the cause of our incessant thinking.

It dawns on me that the more we allow our thoughts to consume us, the more we distance ourselves from our true Beingness and hinder our ability to present our best selves. Blame and frustration are merely byproducts of overthinking the situation.

Therefore, we must consciously choose to stop the cycle of excessive thinking; otherwise, it will perpetuate negativity and distract us from delivering a stellar presentation.

This serves as a reminder of the importance of being present and letting go of unnecessary mental burdens. When we cease overanalyzing, overthinking, and blaming external factors, we regain control over our actions and reconnect with our authentic selves. By releasing the need for perfection, we open ourselves up to new possibilities and opportunities.

I encourage all of you to stop thinking too much, avoiding unnecessary blots on your Beingness. Embrace the unexpected, for it is in those moments that we truly shine and present our best selves to the world.

I was in Chennai on Thursday and Friday, and it was an extraordinary and memorable experience!

The highlight of my trip was finally meeting some amazing individuals in person whom I've connected with on LinkedIn. Ananya Nori, Krishnan Venkatesalu,    Vijaykumar V, and Sunil Soni were not only kind enough to meet me at my convenience, but our meeting felt as if we were long-time friends. It's truly special when virtual connections translate seamlessly into real-life friendships.

In addition to these beautiful meetups, I also had a delightful surprise encounter with Ganesh Dalvi, CPF, and ASHRAF ALI. Sometimes, unexpected meetings can be the most treasured, and this was no exception. It was a joy to connect with them, even if it was a brief encounter.

By the way, I was in Chennai to facilitate a full-day session on "Be an EPIC," for the second batch of Balmer Lawrie & Co. Ltd. officers. It was an incredible opportunity to empower and inspire these participants on their personal and professional journeys. I am pleased to share that the session has already had a positive impact on their personal transformation. I will be sharing more details about this transformative experience soon!

Amidst his busy schedule, ever-friendly ✍️Ganesh Kalyanakrishnan managed to meet early morning (second time during the week) at our favorite spot, the beach!

Sunil is accompanied by his talented sister Priyanka, a creative artist. We had an enriching time. What struck me the most about Sunil and Priyanka is their strong spiritual foundation at such a young age, which is truly inspiring.

All in all, my Chennai visit was filled with meaningful connections, enlightening conversations, and experiences that will be etched in my heart forever. I am grateful for the opportunity to meet these incredible individuals.

Updates on the transformative "Be an EPIC" session will be posted soon!
