"Embracing the Unexpected"
Three drops of blue ink are used in my session on 'Discover
the EPIC in You.'
This final activity at the end of the day session prompts
participants to come up with many insights on their own. As I reflect on this
simple yet powerful activity, a profound metaphor unfolds before me;
Imagine you are all set for an important presentation,
wearing a brand new, super white shirt. You are ready to make a lasting
impression when someone accidentally spills ink on your pristine shirt,
creating an instant prominent blot.
In that moment, frustration surges through you, and you begin
to blame the person responsible, the situation that led to the mishap, and even
your own decision to wear the white shirt instead of your favorite purple one.
Now, let's delve into the metaphor.
The shirt, in all its whiteness, represents our Beingness—the
core of who we are. The presentation symbolizes our actions, the outward
expression of ourselves to the world.
And the ink blot? It represents the cause of our incessant
thinking.
It dawns on me that the more we allow our thoughts to consume
us, the more we distance ourselves from our true Beingness and hinder our
ability to present our best selves. Blame and frustration are merely byproducts
of overthinking the situation.
Therefore, we must consciously choose to stop the cycle of
excessive thinking; otherwise, it will perpetuate negativity and distract us
from delivering a stellar presentation.
This serves as a reminder of the importance of being present and
letting go of unnecessary mental burdens. When we cease overanalyzing,
overthinking, and blaming external factors, we regain control over our actions
and reconnect with our authentic selves. By releasing the need for perfection,
we open ourselves up to new possibilities and opportunities.
I encourage all of you to stop thinking too much, avoiding
unnecessary blots on your Beingness. Embrace the unexpected, for it is in those
moments that we truly shine and present our best selves to the world.
