I could almost see it -
the last bubble of air leaving me…
rising up… as if saying goodbye.
My body was exhausted.
Hands… heavy.
Legs… refusing.
And suddenly…
I snapped out of it.
I was standing.
In shallow water!
Nothing had actually happened.
Except… my thoughts.
A bit of backstory.
I had learnt swimming on my own… 30 years ago.
Practised for a few weeks… and stopped.
Now, after three decades, I got back into the pool.
For 5 days, I stayed safely in the shallow end.
On the 6th day, I thought of going to the deep end.
And that’s when it began…
Not drowning in water, but drowning in imagined consequences.
—
The next day, I did something different.
I went straight to the deeper end.
Got into the water.
Started swimming… along the wall.
And then someone stopped me.
“Your swimming is fine… but try this correction.”
He turned out to be a water polo athlete.
—
We all need thoughts.
But most of the time,
they don’t help us swim.
they pull us into
fearful… irritating… exhausting depths.
—
Today, just notice:
Are your thoughts helping you swim…
or convincing you that you’re drowning?
Just a small pause…
…and let a calmer thought emerge.
*****
If this resonates,
I’m offering a 15-minute session,
no gyaan, no fixing.
Just space… to come back to the surface.
