Early in the morning, as I stood still like a tree in my Zhan Zhuang practice, a distant horn sounded, the kind of old buses from the '70s. Instantly, my mind played "Yeh Dil Na Hota Bechara" from Jewel Thief.
It was just a sound, yet it unlocked a vivid memory. And I was singing it the whole day!
(You can listen to the sound of the horn and two lines from the song in the accompanying video clip)
Isn’t it fascinating how small triggers - sounds, scents, a passing remark can bring back emotions buried deep in our subconscious? But while some memories bring warmth, others awaken grief, resentment, or unexplained discomfort.
I once had a client who unknowingly carried resentment from childhood. As a little girl, her nursery teacher had given her a mild pat on the back - not harsh, but in her young mind. It became a wound, small yet lasting. That moment buried itself deep, shaping her relationships without her realizing it. For years, she distanced herself from childhood friends without knowing why.
In our third session together, this forgotten memory surfaced. As she processed it, something shifted. She felt lighter as if an invisible weight had lifted. Soon after, she reconnected with her old friends, reviving bonds she never meant to break.

When we slow down and tune in, we heal past wounds that once dictated our reactions. We stop carrying unnecessary burdens. And we reclaim the joy of the present moment.
Has a simple sound or scent ever taken you back in time? I would love to hear your story!
