How long do you like to live?
My answer is always 120 years!
Recently Venki Ramakrishnan a Nobel-winning scientist also
said in an interview - 120 is the absolute limit.
But, then most of us are not ok with reaching this absolute limit.
I ask the question of how long they would like to live in
every session and receive answers from the audience ranging from 60 to 80
years.
Then I further ask why they do not aspire to reach 120 years,
the answers are the same as those that are currently running in your mind!
When we enter the golden age (50 plus), suddenly we
become aware that the people in our close proximity are suffering from chronic
diseases, the infirmity of old age, moving in and out of hospitals, and a few
unfortunate ones saying goodbye to life!
All this experience takes a heavy toll on the mind and questions
the necessity of living a life of dependency and suffering.
Please watch the video accompanying this post now, if not
watched it so far!
The lotus bud takes more than 10 days to bloom fully. Then it
just withers away in two days!
Can we head to nature’s message through this lotus
flower?
We strive through our 30s to 50s, and most build a robust
life, with sound financial security. (Just like the lotus bud looks robust
for more than 10 days)
However, as one enters the golden age, the occasional suffering
from ill health, listening/attending to
people suffering old age ravages triggers the fear of death subtly.
All these things coupled with the inherent golden responsibilities
at that stage of life lead to experiencing some unexplained fears, getting
anxious, and worrying too much. (thought of withering away in just two days?!)
There must be a remedy for this, right?
Yes, let’s delve into the answer by Venki Ramakrishnan to the
final question of the interview;
“…As I say in the book(Why We Die), age-old advice still
works better than any anti-aging medicine available in the market.
Regular
exercise, healthy and moderate eating, and adequate sleep – these are your
secrets to a long life”
I fully
agree with this, being sixty, medicine-free for the last 10 years, and willing to
reach the human age limit of 120!
Self-awareness micro-practices have played a major role in
this!
