Why is April 1st truly Fools’ Day?
Yesterday, I was traveling on the Jan Shatabdi train from
Coimbatore to Bangalore. As the train started moving, I took out my phone and
sent a few messages to inform others that I had boarded. I also spoke to my
wife, who was unwell. Then I noticed that my phone battery was at 30%. I looked
for charging points, but there were none!
To ensure my phone lasted until I reached Bangalore, I
decided to use it as little as possible.
However, I was pleasantly surprised to see that many
passengers had freed themselves from the clutches of their mobile phones. They
were engaged in all kinds of conversations, discussing various topics with their
family, friends, and co-passengers.
A few people were walking up and down the coach, seeking relief
from the scorching heat and the uncomfortable seating - shoulder to shoulder with
passengers beside them and knee to knee with those sitting opposite!
Yet, there were also a few who were completely absorbed in
their mobile screens, oblivious to their surroundings.
Finally, I reached home with just 5% battery left.
This morning, as I changed the calendar, a thought struck me:
April 1st is called Fools' Day because we often get stuck in
April and refuse to move to the next month - even after 30 days, or maybe even
365!
Confused?
Look at it this way—we are always on an "App
Reel"!
We willingly imprison ourselves in apps and reels.
"MAY" this awareness help me take a break from apps
and reels, at least for some time each day!
