Asking for a lift from a two-wheeler rider has never come naturally to me. Even when my grocery bag felt like a sack of bricks or the blazing sun turned the road into a furnace, I hesitated. Too many thoughts swirled in my head. For example, will anyone stop? How long will I wait?

But honestly, I think it’s less about the wait and more about dodging all those rejections before someone finally says yes.

Yesterday, something interesting happened.

I was riding my scooter when a boy confidently signalled for a lift with the classic outstretched thumb. No hesitation, no second-guessing, just sheer confidence. And without thinking, as if under a spell, I stopped.

He mumbled something, and the only word I caught was ellneeru (tender coconut). He hopped onto the back, gave a quick "Hun" to signal me to move, and at a tender coconut selling point, asked me to stop. In a flash, he jumped off, said, "Thank you, uncle," and disappeared.

No deep life lessons here.

Just an observation: The way we act is often shaped by our thoughts and the situations we are in.

But if there’s one thing to take away - maybe, just maybe, life flows better when we stop overthinking and just act.

Have you ever been on either side of this experience?
