I was around 1996 when I was first introduced to meditation.
Like a devoted student, I adhered to the method and practiced
diligently.
However, I found myself grappling with many unanswered
questions that kept arising. I explored different methods, dedicating a good
amount of time to each one. Yet, the methodologies often emphasized strict
adherence over questioning.
Then, a friend introduced me to Eckhart Tolle. Slowly and
progressively, I understood that meditation doesn’t just dissolve questions, it
allows us to persist with them. A profound example is the question, "Who
am I?"
When I came across a quote by J. Krishnamurti, it immediately
resonated with me:
When you
want a system, a method, a practice, a discipline to quieten the mind, to
understand this or that, or put aside desire, the practising of a system means
a mechanical routine, doing the thing over and over again. That is what a
system implies. What takes place when the mind does that? It becomes a routine,
and the mind becomes dull, stupid.
