It was December 31st, and I was all set to toss out the old
calendar when I heard a voice.
“Really? You’re just going to change the calendar and think
that’s all it takes?”
I looked around. “Who said that?”
“It’s me, Suswasa. You know, the voice of calm you
occasionally listen to when life gets chaotic.”
“Oh, hey,” I said, casually sliding my to-do list under a
pile of unopened mail. “What’s up?”
“You tell me,” Suswasa replied. “You’ve got a shiny new 2025
calendar, but are you bringing the right mindset into the new year? Or are you
just flipping pages and calling it growth?”
“Well, I was thinking about making some resolutions…”
I started, but Suswasa cut me off.
“Resolutions are like trendy diets. They sound good at first
but rarely stick. What about the good habits you already have?”
“Good habits?” I asked, genuinely confused.
“Like exercise,” Suswasa said. “Remember that time you walked
10,000 steps in a day and felt invincible?”
“Oh yeah! My legs hated me, but my mood was amazing.”
“And meditation,” Suswasa continued. “You’ve been dabbling.
Every time you sit still, you discover how loud your brain really is.”
“True. It’s like a circus in there,” I admitted.
“And let’s not forget mindful eating,” Suswasa said. “Chewing
slowly, enjoying flavors- it’s a game-changer, isn’t it?”
“Okay, fine, you are making a point,” I said. “But what do I
do with all this?”
“Simple,” Suswasa said. “Don’t just ditch 2024 like a bad
haircut. Bring the good stuff into 2025. Exercise keeps you strong. Meditation
keeps you sane. Mindful eating keeps you present. These are your constants, no
matter what year it is.”
As I hung up my new calendar, I felt a sense of calm. Suswasa
was right. The year may change, but some things - like habits that make life
better- are worth keeping.
“Thanks, Suswasa,” I said.
“Don’t thank me,” it replied. “Just keep moving, breathing,
and chewing. You’ve got this.”
Here’s to a new year, a fresh calendar, and a commitment to
what really matters. Cheers to 2025!
