78th Independence Day – Are we really moving beyond Sixes and Sevens?

As we celebrate the 78th Independence Day, there is hope that we might finally be moving away from the “sixes and sevens” that have defined recent years.

We are still caught in a delightful confusion – debating what nationalism actually means, arguing over whether regional pride or religious identity should come first, and twisting ourselves in knots with countless divisions.

It feels like we are playing a never-ending game of “Who Am I?” – And instead of resolving our identity crisis, we have made it more complicated!

Then there’s the role of intelligence, which now comes in two flavors: real and artificial. With so much division and disagreement, it seems like we need artificial intelligence just to keep track of all the labels, identities, and definitions we have created!

But maybe the 78th year will be the turning point! Maybe we’ll start agreeing that we are all in this together and use our tech to bridge the divides rather than deepen them. If artificial and real intelligence can work together, surely our ideas of unity and identity can too.

Here’s hoping this Independence Day marks the end of our national sixes and sevens—and the start of a more united, less confused chapter. We have got the potential; now let’s add some sense to the mix!

PS – Ever wondered why the phrase “sixes and sevens” fits so well?

Since our 60th Independence Day, we have been all over the place  – first 61st, then 62nd…76th, 77th,  and now 78th!

But don’t worry, after another year we will enter the 80s  - and  may be that will be the beginning of us finally coming out of this “sixes and sevens” phase J
