Why Giving is difficult?

 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐬 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭?

#Entrepreneurs#Business #leaders, organisation heads

Why your team members, associates & employees are shying away from giving their time, effort & goodwill towards each other?

Why are your training, workshops, and processes failing to uplift the giving spirit?

Isn’t it preventing the entire organisation from moving towards prosperity?

So, how to inculcate the culture of giving?
***
Suswasa asked these questions to top corporate leaders looking for solutions!

Then he closed his eyes and sat still.

When Suswasa opened his eyes he sensed the eagerness of leaders around him, and said let me tell you a story!
***
Once Arjuna asked Krishna – Why Karna is known as the greatest giver even though Yudhishtira also never hesitates to give whenever someone asks him?

Then Krishna said, ok then let’s find out!
So they went in disguise as Brahmins to the court of Yudhishtira and asked for sandalwood sticks to perform yagna. The king immediately ordered his soldiers to get the sandalwood sticks. They went deep into the forest but they could not get dry sticks as it was a monsoon!

Soldiers returned with wet sticks and of course it cannot be used for yagna.

Then Arjuna & Krishna went to Karna’s court and asked for sandalwood sticks for performing yagna.

Karna thought for a while and understood that he cannot arrange dry sticks as it was the rainy season.

Then he took an axe and cut the door made of sandalwood and chopped them into little pieces and offered to the Brahmins!
***
Finishing the story, Suswasa looked at the leaders around him and asked them – do you now agree that Karna is the greatest giver?

As all of them were nodding, to their astonishment, Suswasa said both Yudhishtira and Karna failed as givers in this particular test!

Both the kings could have asked their respective priests to arrange the sandalwood sticks assuring the priests that they will not bother them with any yagna before the arrangement of sufficient sticks!
(mgmt lesson 1)

Kings could have asked the Brahmins, whether they had approached the fellow priests before coming to the court! Kings simply assumed that they might have exhausted all other options before coming to the court!
( mgmt lesson 2 & 3)

Both the kings in order to maintain their assumed position of Giver used their power of position and might of mind and failed miserably.

Poor soldiers of Yudhishtira were harassed to go in search of sandalwood rather than chasing enemy forces!
And Karna’s carpenters had to divert their time and effort in repairing the damaged door rather than creating a fresh work of art!
(mgmt lesson 4)

For the ordinary folks, not having access to the position, power & might, giving appears daunting and hence they don’t give!

So, Leaders do not wield your position, and power while in the act of giving!
