Happiness Is Our AIM….In our thoughts but .... Part 2 of 2
In part 1, we have seen that wishing to be happy
does not help us to actually be happy....
‘Why so?’, you may ask. ‘After becoming CEO I will
have no worries. My concerns about How-to-be-a-CEO etc are now redundant. Thus
I will not have any negative thoughts...’
But the sad reality is that we are never satisfied
with the 'Happiness’ from achieving material goals or targets. Sure for a few
hours or days, you may be elated to have become CEO.
But in days to come, you may get restless again.
The wish to become the CEO of another larger firm or merely hoping to retain
your job itself (due to changed market circumstances) means that the initial
Happiness of becoming the CEO is short-lived.
The Rolls Royce similarly stops giving happiness.
Now what is needed is a pent-house in the most happening quarter of the city!!!
After all your spouse’s cousin has recently moved into one too.
So in all practical reality, merely achieving
material goals is no guarantee of lasting happiness. Sure like a child being
handed a lollipop, we are grateful and happy during the initial licks. But soon
we start worrying that this lollipop may get finished.
If we recollect the Part 1of this post, we realize
that these challenges started when we started thinking about some material goal
X as the basis for our happiness. It is not really hard to believe that
irrespective of what our ‘Happiness goal’ is, ancillary thoughts,
both positive and negative will soon creep in.
The latter ones are more frequent as discussed and
in due course, our dream of future happiness descends to the present confusion/
worries/ fear etc. In short, unhappiness.
So what is that we need to be doing....?
A better question to ask is what is that we should
NOT be doing?
We should ideally not be having any thoughts.
Just think about it.....
... being blissfully present without having any
thoughts is the way to go... Of course, it is easier said than done.
The image herein a truth captures the Truth that
Happiness is indirectly proportional to our (number of ) thoughts. So if we
have less thoughts, the happier we are.
But often we ourselves are the bottle neck to our
Happiness. The ego 'i' does not let us easily find happiness because it
encourages more thoughts (as seen in part 1).
Meditation and Self-awareness help us on our path
to actual happiness with NO Thoughts...
