Happiness is our AIM - part 1

Happiness Is Our Aim….In our thoughts but ....  Part 1 of 2

Ask folks what they would love to be and invariably in another question or two (Why or What Next?), they will confide they wish to be happy.

Each one may see different routes to be happy. Basis their personal interests, situation in life etc, they may wish to be a CEO, climb Mt.Everest, marry a good looking & wealthy spouse (surely a bonus if he/she also happens to be intelligent & compassionate), start an NGO for helping the vulnerable, buying a Roll Royce etc )

So the one thought - the simple wish to be happy, also spawns many other thoughts...some positive and some negative. Positive thoughts could be … the happiness/pride our friends & family will feel once we become CEO. Negative thoughts could include the challenges we fear that we will face on road to be CEO.

The lady who is already a favourite of the board because of the remarkable turnaround in her SBU, since she has taken over, or the harassment charges one may face due to some indiscretions of a decade ago etc...

Each thought or ancillary thought (positive or negative) will in its wake, create other ancillary thought (both positive & negative). In general, we find that negative thoughts are more frequent and funnily enough linger longer too.

This (tendency to dwell on the negative) is not surprising. As animals, one of our basic instincts is to survive for more days. This is of course to reproduce more and transmit more of our genetic material into the gene pool.

So it surely helps to be fearful about the future and to be prepared to Feed (ourselves), Fight, Freeze, Flee, Fornicate etc.. all for immediate physical self-preservation &/ or propagation of our genes.

So wishing to be happy, and thinking of happiness is not as simple as it may seem. We invariably get sad because we invariably start thinking of some challenges or some sad events or experiences...

End of Part 1 of 2.
