“𝐁𝐫𝐨…” – 𝐖𝐚𝐢𝐭, 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐦𝐲 𝐝𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭? 😅
It’s a recent phenomenon.
From Pappa → to BRO!
Now, there’s already so much debate about kids calling elders bro.
Especially, 70s and 80s folks… many of them roll their eyes every time a Gen Z says “Bro.”
But here’s what I have observed:
How a child addresses the father is largely dependent on the mother’s preference.
Whatever the mother ‘trains’, the kid follows:
Pappa, Appa, Daddy, Dada, Baba, Bawa… sometimes even Anna!
Funny thing?
In Kannada, 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐚 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫.
So technically, I have been “bro” all along.
And now it’s just the short version - BRO!
On one side, we all preach “change is constant, adapt to it.”
On the other side, we resist even the tiniest change, like being called Bro instead of Dad.
At the end of the day, it’s all about perceptions…
and maybe, just maybe, a father earning an unexpected promotion -
from Pappa to Bro!
