Exercise in stillness

 𝐈 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐧. 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐈 𝐞𝐱𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐞?”

A senior project manager in his 40s had spent years glued to his desk.

 

Stress lodged in his shoulders.

Chronic fatigue was weighing him down.

And zero motivation to “work out.”


Jogging? Too jarring.

Gym? Overwhelming.

Even walking felt like a burden.

 

He wanted change, but didn’t know where to start.

That’s when I introduced him to something most people would not even call exercise.

 

Standing still.

That’s it.

No movement.

Just standing, with awareness, with intent.

 

In the very first session, his legs began to tremble after 5 minutes.

Not because it was physically hard,

But because, for the first time in years, his body was being listened to.

 

Week after week, he kept coming back.

He wasn’t chasing muscles or weight loss.

He was learning to stand with presence.

To feel his body.

To hold space within himself.

 

And the result?

 

👉 “I sleep better.”

👉 “My shoulders feel lighter.”

👉 “I can sense my anger before it bursts out.”

👉 “I feel my cravings, but don’t give in to temptations.”

 

This ancient practice- Zhan Zhuang- might look like doing nothing.

But inside, a thousand things are happening.

 

Energy rebalances

Mind settles

Mood lifts
