One day a full page advertisement in a newspaper drew my attention. It said – “Our fine villas don’t cost the heavens.”
This made my thought to jog and came up with many phrases that we use in our daily conversation. Let us examine some phrases;
Diamond jewellery cost the heavens!
Dhoni hits the ball like hell !
MTR ice creams are selling like hot cakes these days.
He looks cool in that Montecarlo sweater.
Our winter collections are very cool.
Our sale of summer collections are red hot.
Hiring that actor is costly.
He acts so cheap.
He thinks of himself highly.
Azim premji keeps low profile.
Just few years back the word ‘sexy’ was taboo. These days everyone use the word ‘sexy’ to convey something that is superlative.
‘Ati bhayankar’ in north karnataka is used for extremely good as well as extremely bad things.
Finally, when we yearn for something we say “I am dying to get that thing.” In reality we like to live after getting it!!!
So it is clear that we give the meaning to the words. A word on its own does not convey anything. It’s our way of usage and interpretation makes it acquire the meaning. Many times it will be opposite of its normal meaning.
Words on their own does not hurt or praise. We all have the power to convert abuses into praises or at least to ignore.
So words can make us sufferer or powerful communicator.
CHOICE IS ENTIRELY OURS.
